She had to lose him quickly. Her one significant advantage was that she knew the landscape, and he, or they, did not. Gutten had been smart enough not to introduce his “assistant,” to her so she had no idea what she looked like, if in fact she was a she. She could not run forever—she was in her early 40s—and her body would likely give up before theirs. Susan bobbed and weaved through the crowd, nearly hitting several people, and receiving lots of looks. They did not know her car or where it was parked, but for now she had to get someplace safe and figure things out. She passed the entrance to Friday’s and kept on running. She knew she couldn’t sustain this pace. She had to hope Gutten never saw her break into a run, that he was just now walking into the Rotunda and heading for the Surf Lounge and that the assistant was getting out of the Millennium Force queue line and hurrying back to the hotel. She thought about just running into the hotel office, but she didn’t want to back track.

She always carried a small knife in her purse, but it was locked in her car as the park did not allow knives of any kind into the park.

Maybe there were more assistants? Maybe they were going to cover all corners of the parking lot. Maybe she should just run until she saw a Cedar Point Police Department officer. She should be safe then, but what would she tell them?
